Rug Hooking KIT, Torn Wool Pumpkins, J941, DIY Rug Hooked Pumpkin, Harvest Pumpkin, Orange Pumpkin

Sorry, this item has sold.

This listing is for the rug hooking KIT "Torn Wool Pumpkins". It includes all the wool needed to hook this 8" x 11" pumpkin. The pumpkins can be finished as a mat or as a small pillow as I did with the orange pumpkin. At present time this kit is only available in orange.

These pumpkins are hooked using torn strips of wool so you do not need a wool cutter to hook this project. Included is an instruction sheet with step by step instructions on how to prepare and tear the wool, how to hook the pumpkin, and how to finish your project. Wool for hooking and for covering the back are included in the kit. A hook is NOT included.

I have hand drawn the design on primitive linen and serged the outside raw edges to prevent raveling while working on your project. The size of the backing fabric is about 20" x 20" which makes it fit on most rug hooking lap frames or in a 14" hoop.

So if you don't own a cutter, this might be a fun way for you to try your hand at primitive rug hooking. In the olden days people tore or cut their strips by hand. Tearing is preferable because it keep your wool strip on the straight of grain. However, it is hard to tear a strip much less than 1/2" wide, so the look is very primitive.

Although you don't need a cutting machine, you will need a special primitive hook with a wide enough shank to make it easier to pull these wide strips through.

Take a look at the Hartman hooks I offer in the hooking supplies section:

The wool in the kit may vary slightly from the original hooked pumpkins in the photos, but will give the same overall look.

Which Backing Fabric should I choose?

Cotton Monks Cloth is 100% cotton woven with two warp threads and two weft threads has 12 x 13 holes per inch. It is great for hooking with all cuts of wool, from fine to primitive cuts. It is less expensive than primitive linen.

Primitive linen is 100% linen, the most durable backing fabric. It is more expensive than other backing fabrics. The evenly spaced weave of 12 x 12 threads per inch makes it great for all primitive cuts, #7 and wider.
Beginners usually have an easier time hooking with linen.

Both are fine and long lasting choices for the backing to support and make your hooked rug durable. I use both types, but usually choose linen for larger projects.

Do you refund shipping overage charges?

Yes, if the difference is $3.00 or more. Etsy calculations, especially on orders with multiple items, can add up to more than the actual shipping. I will let you know when your order is ready to ship if you will be receiving a shipping refund.

Wonderful kit - so excited to try it out‼️ The wools are beautiful, and the pattern very well done😊 I’ve never done a project like this - can’t wait to start on it‼️ Thanks, Miss Mary😊

Great kit! Looking forward to learning the hand torn style. Speedy shipping and great customer service!!

This is such a cute kit! Mary is awesome and always sends so quickly. Have purchased from her multiple times and she never disappoints.

This pumpkin pillow is so cute! I couldn't get the fabric to tear right. It was either way too big or it ripped off. So I just cut strips with scissors. Super cute! Everybody wants it! Also, thanks for the shipping refund! Will shop here again!
