This listing is for an 8mm Hartman Ball Handle Hook. It measures about 4-1/2" in length. The brass shank is about 2-1/4" long and about 1/4" in diameter where it meets the ball handle. The ball handle is yew wood with beautiful grain lines and smooth finish. Each hook is unique.
This 8mm hook is the one I use most of the time. I love the way it fits perfectly into the palm of my hand. (See 3rd photo). The 4th photo shows a comparison of the hooks I offer. The 8mm is the 2nd from left.
A Hartman hook is a great investment for primitive rug hooking. It is so easy to pull your loops through your backing fabric which makes it easier on your wrist. The wide (1/4") metal shank is a great help in making the hole large enough for your 1/4" wide (or wider) strips to slip through like butter :)

Cotton Monks Cloth is 100% cotton woven with two warp threads and two weft threads has 12 x 13 holes per inch. It is great for hooking with all cuts of wool, from fine to primitive cuts. It is less expensive than primitive linen.
Primitive linen is 100% linen, the most durable backing fabric. It is more expensive than other backing fabrics. The evenly spaced weave of 12 x 12 threads per inch makes it great for all primitive cuts, #7 and wider.
Beginners usually have an easier time hooking with linen.
Both are fine and long lasting choices for the backing to support and make your hooked rug durable. I use both types, but usually choose linen for larger projects.
Yes, if the difference is $3.00 or more. Etsy calculations, especially on orders with multiple items, can add up to more than the actual shipping. I will let you know when your order is ready to ship if you will be receiving a shipping refund.

Not sure how I feel about this hook, just started using it today. I'm thinking I'd like a longer shank if that is even possible in a #8. I will continue to shop here.
