Chicken Mug Rugs, a set of four finished mug rugs, hooked by me, Mary Johnson.
These mug rugs are a one of a kind (OOAK) set that I hooked as samples for my pattern, “Chicken Mug Rugs”.
The mug rugs are approximately 5” in diameter.
I hand hooked them with 100% wool fabric cut in #8 (1/4” wide) strips. The body is a fun primitive gold, hand dyed over a tiny texture. A golden yellow head and touches of red and brown as accents give these a whimsical folk art look. Felted wool is glued to the back of each mug rug and edges are trimmed with pinking shears. (see photos).
Ready to use under that favorite mug of coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
These would make a wonderful gift to those who treasure and appreciate the craft of primitive rug hooking.
A signed tag will accompany the set if you wish to include it if giving as a gift.

Cotton Monks Cloth is 100% cotton woven with two warp threads and two weft threads has 12 x 13 holes per inch. It is great for hooking with all cuts of wool, from fine to primitive cuts. It is less expensive than primitive linen.
Primitive linen is 100% linen, the most durable backing fabric. It is more expensive than other backing fabrics. The evenly spaced weave of 12 x 12 threads per inch makes it great for all primitive cuts, #7 and wider.
Beginners usually have an easier time hooking with linen.
Both are fine and long lasting choices for the backing to support and make your hooked rug durable. I use both types, but usually choose linen for larger projects.
Yes, if the difference is $3.00 or more. Etsy calculations, especially on orders with multiple items, can add up to more than the actual shipping. I will let you know when your order is ready to ship if you will be receiving a shipping refund.
